- Similar to a List Server but web browser based
- Content pre-categorized (subject areas and starter topics)
- Threaded dialogues
- Threads maintained by the board
- As opposed to the threads based upon the subject lin of emails as in List servers
- Entire contents is searchable
- Content "Critical Mass"
- Some level of value needs to be reached for forum to be widely used
- Often needs deliberate individual use to get it started
- Preloading with enough useful content to lure an audience
